Vermont Regional Center Receives USCIS Decision on Administrative Appeal of Termination Notice

October 1, 2019

Montpelier, VT – Today the State of Vermont received a decision from the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) in response to the state’s September 4, 2018 administrative appeal. The decision upholds the July 3, 2018 Notice of Termination.

The Vermont Regional Center (VRC) is reviewing the decision and weighing its legal options. The state is entitled to either file a motion for reconsideration with USCIS or appeal the decision to federal district court and will decide on the best course of action following a thorough review.

The state continues to believe an abrupt termination is not warranted given the actions taken to strengthen oversight and regulation of these projects, and that a gradual wind-down of the Regional Center’s activities will best protect investors and promote economic growth in Vermont.

The VRC has communicated with the affected projects to apprise them of the USCIS decision.

Questions relating to the decision should be directed to Stephanie Brackin at the Department of Financial Regulation.
